KYTC OIT- GIS Development & Support Specialist
6/24/2024
Are you passionate about making a difference using GIS technology? We are looking for a GIS Help Desk team member who enjoys: (1) helping others, (2) figuring out challenging problems, and (3) sharing with others what you’ve learned and how to apply the solution to the problem.
You must be a systems thinker who can understand how solving a particular problem the right way can streamline processes and scale for the enterprise. You must enjoy being a “Spatial champion” to help people grow their understanding of spatial technology and how it can help them do their jobs faster and better. This requires a high EQ, a collaborative spirit, excellent communication skills, and a constant desire to grow and learn.
This is a contractor-based position whose title will be “GIS Development & Support Specialist.” While this is an “Early career” position, every senior GIS team member has started on the GIS Help Desk and then grown into their current position. It is a long-term position, renewed annually. (We’ve had contractors work for OIT for decades).
This is a remote work position, but you must live in the United States. Also, on rare occasions, there may be a need for an in-person meeting, so living a drivable distance to Frankfort, KY is preferred.
The KYTC Office of Information Technology is a collaborative, fast-paced environment; focused on helping deliver the Cabinet’s Mission.
We need someone with the passion and skills to help fulfill the following roles:
(1) Help Desk Support – The successful candidate…

b. Must have strong experience with the ESRI technology stack. Experience using ArcGIS Pro is preferred. Additional experience with Bentley’s GIS/CADD solutions and Google mapping is a plus.
c. Must enjoy engaging customers to understand (1) what problem(s) they are trying to solve, (2) how their business works, and (3) what technologies might help.
d. Must have excellent oral and written communications skills.
e. Will provide technical support to the Cabinet’s GIS customers as well as the public. This requires excellent problem-solving skills to resolve issues with Web-based, desktop (local and via Citrix), and mobile solutions.
f. Must have excellent attention to detail, able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and reprioritize tasks as circumstances change.
g. Must understand how customer needs translate into data designs that then drive the applications that solve customer problems.
