    By joining the Office of Kentucky Nature Preserves/Director's Office as a Geoprocessing Specialist I in Franklin County, you will have the opportunity to significantly contribute to the conservation and management of Kentucky's natural heritage. You will work with a dedicated team to monitor biodiversity, support rare plant conservation, and provide technical assistance for environmental reviews.     KYTC OIT- GIS Development & Support Specialist

    Are you passionate about making a difference using GIS technology? We are looking for a GIS Help Desk team member who enjoys: (1) helping others, (2) figuring out challenging problems, and (3) sharing with others what you’ve learned and how to apply the solution to the problem.

    You must be a systems thinker who can understand how solving a particular problem the right way can streamline processes and scale for the enterprise. You must enjoy being a “Spatial champion” to help people grow their understanding of spatial technology and how it can help them do their jobs faster and better. This requires a high EQ, a collaborative spirit, excellent communication skills, and a constant desire to grow and learn.

    This is a contractor-based position whose title will be “GIS Development & Support Specialist.” While this is an “Early career” position, every senior GIS team member has started on the GIS Help Desk and then grown into their current position. It is a long-term position, renewed annually. (We’ve had contractors work for OIT for decades).

    This is a remote work position, but you must live in the United States. Also, on rare occasions, there may be a need for an in-person meeting, so living a drivable distance to Frankfort, KY is preferred.

    The KYTC Office of Information Technology is a collaborative, fast-paced environment; focused on helping deliver the Cabinet’s Mission.

    We need someone with the passion and skills to help fulfill the following roles:

    (1) Help Desk Support – The successful candidate…

    a. Must have at least two years of experience in hands-on, complex GIS analysis, troubleshooting, and customer support. This includes data editing (preferably including data design and management as well), map production, and preferably web or mobile GIS app creation.

    b. Must have strong experience with the ESRI technology stack. Experience using ArcGIS Pro is preferred. Additional experience with Bentley’s GIS/CADD solutions and Google mapping is a plus.

    c. Must enjoy engaging customers to understand (1) what problem(s) they are trying to solve, (2) how their business works, and (3) what technologies might help.

    d. Must have excellent oral and written communications skills.

    e. Will provide technical support to the Cabinet’s GIS customers as well as the public. This requires excellent problem-solving skills to resolve issues with Web-based, desktop (local and via Citrix), and mobile solutions.

    f. Must have excellent attention to detail, able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and reprioritize tasks as circumstances change.

    g. Must understand how customer needs translate into data designs that then drive the applications that solve customer problems.

    h. Must be capable of translating customer needs into successful customer outcomes. This includes (1) understanding the customer’s challenge, (2) researching and determining viable solutions, (3) presenting ideas to peers to assure solutions integrate with larger spatial/data enterprise, and upon agreement, (4) delivering and training customers in the solution.

    (2) Other duties as assigned – Other duties within some of the following areas may become part of the successful candidate’s work, depending on their skills and the Cabinet’s needs:

    a. CADD/Engineering (BIM) process integration.

    (2) Committed to excellent customer service – Must be an excellent listener with a high EQ. You must enjoy working with people, asking effective follow up questions to identify the details needed to understand the problem, and working with the customer to create a viable solution that helps them achieve their Cabinet duties.

    (3) Excellent communicator – Must be able to integrate information from people with diverse backgrounds (KYTC field staff, engineers, IT server administrators, upper management, etc.), translate those needs/ideas into polished technical documentation, other communications (email, Word, PPT, etc.), or a GIS solution. The candidate must be able to effectively share ideas & solutions in language the customer understands.

    (4) Very Analytical – The successful candidate enjoys figuring out the “why” of a problem. They can…

    a. Understand and document the customer’s issues/needs into clear use cases,

    The Kentucky River Area Development District, an eight- county planning and development agency, is accepting applications for a GIS Manager. This position is responsible for managing the organizations Geographic Information System (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) equipment and databases.

    Essential Duties And Tasks

    • Collect GPS data in the field using specialized equipment
    • Produce maps for numerous types of projects using ESRI’s ArcGIS Suite
    • Conduct data/spatial analysis, database design, specialized mapping, and drawing production
    • Consult and interact with local officials and government agencies in the KRADD region
    • Hazard Mitigation Plan mapping
    • Create project maps, shapefiles, KMZ/KML maps, story maps, dashboards, etc.
    • Conversion of maps to usable format; ability to plot and print maps
    • Maintain digital library of geographic maps in various file types
    • WRIS mapping
    • KYTC centerline mapping GPS data collection and data set updates

    Minimum Qualifications

    A bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geography or related field or Associates Degree with work in related fields. Experience with GPS/GIS equipment preferred. Applicants need to have obtained their drone certification. Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, public, and elected officials. Must be able to work under pressure and against frequent deadlines with little or no supervision.

    Primary Role

    Responsible for ensuring GIS network data is complete, accurate and current by using standard operating procedures and GIS editing best practices to proactively gather, interpret and process edits from a variety of sources.
