Under the direction of the Information Technology Director, the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the strategic direction of GIS for Allen County, including directing the activities of four contracted GIS Analysts. This position is covered as defined by the Board of Commissioners of the County of Allen Employee Handbook.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for performing GIS modeling, analysis and map making.
- Provides technical support to GIS users, including the public.
- Assigns, prioritizes and monitors work for contracted GIS Analysts.
- Architects the enterprise GIS structure.
- Develops and promotes the use of GIS within County departments.
- Develops, promotes and manages relationships with Fort Wayne, regional & state GIS organizations, utilities and other private entities.
- Participates with local, state and national GIS organizations.
- Coordinates the acquisition of GIS data.
- Responsible for planning, scheduling and/or providing GIS training.
- Coordinates GIS licensing and ensures compliance.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field and five years’ GIS experience
- GIS Professional Certification preferred
- Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software suite and Cartography
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to provide technical support and maintain relationships with other organizations
- Must have business acumen and strategic planning skills to architect GIS and promote the use of GIS to improve efficiencies and meet County strategic goals
- Project management skills to coordinate and prioritize the activities of contracted resources
DIFFICULTY OF WORK:
The GIS Coordinator performs work that is of great intricacy involving many complex variables when providing technical support to GIS users. Judgment is needed to develop and promote the use of GIS.
RESPONSIBILITY:
The GIS Coordinator provides extensive contributions when performing GIS modeling, analysis and map making. Decisions and recommendations are reviewed for attainment of objectives and compliance with policies and procedures.
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
The GIS Coordinator maintains frequent contact with other County employees, local, state, and national GIS organizations and the general public regarding all aspects of GIS.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The GIS Coordinator works in a standard office environment with the ability to move around freely with some lifting, bending, pushing and/or pulling loads, reaching over head, kneeling and crawling.

The GIS Coordinator is responsible for directing the activities of four contracted GIS Analysts.
LICENSING:
GIS Professional Certification preferred
