The Survey tech will support our projects by field data collection of boundary, topographic surveys, utilities, road and bridge surveys using GNSS, scanning total station equipment, and modern data collectors.

    Primary Role

    Responsible for ensuring GIS network data is complete, accurate and current by using standard operating procedures and GIS editing best practices to proactively gather, interpret and process edits from a variety of sources.      Master’s in a related field (Anthropology, Computer Science, Geography, Geology, or similar);

     Background in GIS, experience with an open-source toolkit including QGIS is required, experience with Mergin Maps, QField, Geoserver, or additional open source tools is preferred, additional experience with the ESRI environment is preferred;

     Programming skills including Python and SQL required, additional languages preferred;

     Relational database experience required, preferred DBMS include MS Access and/or PostgreSQL;

The successful candidate will relish the challenge as they help deliver award winning GIS solutions and excellent customer service. KYTC-OIT is a collaborative, fast-paced environment; focused on helping deliver the Cabinet’s Mission.     We need someone with the passion and skills to help fulfill the following roles:

    (1) Back End Support – The successful candidate must have at least five years of experience in hands-on, complex GIS analysis, troubleshooting, and customer support utilizing ArcServer, AGOL, and ESRI-mobile tools. This includes data editing (preferably including data design and management as well), and web and mobile map creation. Strong experience with the ESRI technology stack is required. Experience using ArcGIS Pro is preferred. Additional experience with Bentley’s GIS/CADD solutions and Google mapping is a plus. The successful candidate…

    a. Will be part of a team to build, maintain, and support interactive maps, and mobile solutions for the Cabinet’s GIS customers as well as for public facing interactive mapping sites. This requires excellent problem-solving skills to resolve issues.

Education may be substituted with additional relevant work experience on a year-for-year basis. Experience with ArcGIS is required. GIS Tech: Graduation from high school or equivalent supplemented by two (2) years of work experience (experience in GIS, GPS or mapping preferred). Completion of a two-year degree in a GIS related major is preferred, but not required. Completion of training course in computer assisted drafting and/or GIS preferred, but not required. Directly related vocational school courses preferred, but not required. Experience with ArcGIS preferred, but not required.

    GIS Director Description

    Position: GIS

    Reports To: County Surveyor

    Employee of: Gibson County Surveyor

    Status: Exempt

    Work Hours: Full Time

    Salary: See County Salary Schedule

    The GIS Director position will be within the office of the County Surveyor. While this position will answer to the County Surveyor, beyond the development of digital cadaster methodologies (parcels, subdivision lot lines, applicable boundary layers), determination of the order of importance for projects with be the responsibility of the GIS Director.

    Essential Duties

    • Manage daily operation of the County GIS system, including updates to databases and layers as necessary to maintain the County GIS network.
    • Administers and coordinates County GIS operations, including determining project priorities, coordinating mapping efforts, reviewing and/or developing GIS software, establishing mapping procedures and data quality standards and procedure manuals and guides.
    • Create digital and paper maps for County offices and the general public. Install, train, and assist County employees in the use of GIS software. Load any/all GIS software updates and patches.
    • Oversight of the annual GIS budget within the Surveyors’ budget that reflects the GIS needs of the entire County.
    • Maintains current knowledge of GIS software by attending training, workshops, seminars and/or various educational opportunities.
    • Supervises any GIS staff and interns, including providing orientation and training, planning, delegating, and controlling work assignments.
    • Advise County Surveyor, County Commissioners, County Council and other Elected Officials on all GIS related issues.
    • Review and advise on all County contracts and vendors relating to GIS.
    • Performs related duties as assigned.

    Job Requirements

    • Must possess knowledge of modern principles, practices, and techniques of cartography, databases, and GIS, including but not limited to ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, AGOL, and GPS technologies.
    • Thorough knowledge of County government operations, policies, procedures, applications, systems and technologies; comprehensive understanding of local, state, and federal agencies charged with GIS responsibilities and regulatory functions.
    • Thorough knowledge of geo-database design, development, storage, and maintenance.
    • Bachelor’s Degree or higher preferred. Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying.
    • Have a valid driver’s license and have demonstrated a safe driving record.

    Job Alert - Bluegrass ADD seeking Geographic Information System Specialist

    The Bluegrass Area Development District is seeking a GIS Specialist to work on-site. The candidate must be self-motivated with exceptional planning, critical thinking, analytical and communication skills who thrives in a team environment.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide GIS support in collecting, storing, retrieving, manipulating, analyzing, and displaying geospatial and non-geospatial data.
    • Import GIS data into SDE database and perform data updates for various layers.
    • Maintain the geospatial data and attributes.
    • Provide analysis of geospatial data.
    • Create and plot associated maps, diagrams, or drawings.
    • Conduct GPS service, for locating features such as water/sewer infrastructure, road centerlines, building points.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, or related field (experience can be substituted for a degree)
    • Knowledge of general mapping principles, spatial analysis, and cartography.
    • Experience editing data in an ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise versioned Geodatabase.
    • Experience using GPS equipment.
    • Must have a sound technical understanding of key technologies (GIS mapping software and GPS) and systems.

    Job Type: Full-time
