Grade: GIS Analyst: 9 Minimum beginning salary: $26.390/hr.
Grade: GIS Technician: 7 Minimum beginning salary: $22.730/hr.
Class Characteristics: GIS Analyst: Performs intermediate GIS/GPS work mapping and analyzing city-owned utilities and facilities. Operates GPS and GIS software and hardware, maintains GIS database, provides maps to other departments and performs spatial analysis on GIS data. Performs related work as apparent or assigned. GIS Tech: Performs intermediate work maintaining GIS data of city infrastructure such as water, sewer, and stormwater lines. Maintains and corrects current GIS data using ESRI ArcMap. Collects field data with GPS receiver and assists other members of the engineering department with their projects. Creates maps, both physical and digital copies, for all various departments of the city. Performs related work as apparent or assigned
General Duties and Responsibilities: GIS Analyst: Operates GPS and GIS software and hardware. Obtains field data with survey equipment, records into GIS system, creates databases, and maintains GIS databases. Provides maps to other departments. Performs spatial analysis on GIS data. Utilize data to assist with making decisions regarding infrastructure upgrades and replacement. Reviews as-built plans from all Departments, leak records, valve books, and other historic records for GIS system. Obtains field data with survey equipment and records in GIS system to create and maintain databases of all City utilities and various other data. Prepare, plan, produce, maintain, and update a variety of maps, drawings, plans, and other graphic representations displaying layers and attribute data from databases. GIS Tech: Maintains and corrects current GIS data using ESRI ArcMap. Collects field data with GPS receiver and records in GIS system. Assists other members of the engineering department with their projects, i.e. measuring sidewalks for replacements and assists in surveying/shooting elevations. Creates maps, both physical and digital copies, for all various departments of the city. Reviews as-built plans from all Departments, leak records, valve books and other historic records for GIS system. Operates various design and analysis software using the GIS system.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience: GIS Analyst: Bachelor's Degree and considerable experience with GIS, GPS, and mapping. Education may be substituted with additional relevant work experience on a year-for-year basis. Experience with ArcGIS is required. GIS Tech: Graduation from high school or equivalent supplemented by two (2) years of work experience (experience in GIS, GPS or mapping preferred). Completion of a two-year degree in a GIS related major is preferred, but not required. Completion of training course in computer assisted drafting and/or GIS preferred, but not required. Directly related vocational school courses preferred, but not required. Experience with ArcGIS preferred, but not required.
Certification/Licensing Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
