    KYTC OIT - GIS Development & Support Specialist

    The KYTC Office of Information Technology is searching for a new contractor-based GIS team member. The successful candidate will relish the challenge as they help deliver award winning GIS solutions and excellent customer service. They will be a systems thinker who: (1) loves to understand the “why” of problems, (2) enjoys working with others to help provide cost-effective solutions, and (3) enjoys sharing and learning new GIS and technology skills. KYTC-OIT is a collaborative, fast-paced environment; focused on helping deliver the Cabinet’s Mission.     We need someone with the passion and skills to help fulfill the following roles:

    a.    Will provide technical support to the Cabinet’s GIS customers as well as requests from public facing interactive mapping sites. This requires excellent problem-solving skills to resolve issues with Web-based, desktop (local and via Citrix), and mobile solutions.
    b.    Must have excellent attention to detail, able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and reprioritize tasks as circumstances change.
    c.    Must be capable of (1) understanding the customer’s challenge, (2) researching and determining viable solutions, (3) presenting ideas to peers to assure solutions integrate with larger spatial/data enterprise, and upon agreement, (4) delivering and training customers in the solution.
    (2)  Other duties as assigned – The Cabinet is looking for a candidate with a natural interest and skills in data design and management. The successful candidate should have demonstrated work examples that include data design, implementation, and management.     2023 URISA Dr. Marilyn O'Hara Ruiz Young Professional Scholarship

    This scholarship fund was established in 2018 and honors Dr. Marilyn Ruiz. During Dr. Ruiz's career at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, she provided her undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral students with excellent research experiences in her laboratory which helped them to have successful careers in academia, government and industry. Marilyn was passionate about her role as a mentor of graduate education. The scholarship fully supports young professional participation in the conference, fostering their professional connections and educational development.

    Owensboro will be hosting the 2023 Kentucky GIS Conference at the Owensboro Convention Center!

    You are invited to submit proposals for presentations, demonstrations, panel/round table sessions and more at the 2023 Kentucky GIS Conference at the Owensboro Convention Center in Owensboro, KY. We are pleased to have two days of sessions: Wednesday, October 11th and Thursday, October 12th, 2023. This is a great opportunity for our GIS, mapping, and geospatial community to showcase its work, educate others, and share professional experiences.

    Presentations should be 30 minutes, including questions at the end. To submit a presentation, be prepared with an Abstract and Bio. Abstracts are limited to 1000 characters and Bios to 600 characters, and will be evaluated for Technical Content, Interest, Originality, and Quality. The deadline for submissions is end of business May 26th, 2023.
