The purpose of this workshop is to discuss maximizing accuracy through a new generation of GPS devices and software now becoming available that add exciting new options for the Surveyor.

We will look at Terrasync, Geo+ and ArcPad to explore their capabilities and benefits. These GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) devices are available in a variety of options, from centimeter level to sub-meter accuracies at a much lower cost than in the past. These devices provide real-time corrections and allow the use of phones or tablets for data collection and reconnaissance.

There are many factors that need to be considered in the application of these types of devices. Critical to the effective use of this technology is an understanding of real time GPS correction sources and associated coordinate projection and data transformation parameters.

We will discuss the best practices from preparing data for field work, collecting data in the field, and post processing of data via both real time and in the office. With post processing data in the office, we will primarily focus on PathFinder Office, however, we will demonstrate using Trimble Positions Desktop.

In addition, the workshop will focus on using the new Pathfinder Office KYCORS extension that allows quick access to all of KYCORS station directly in Pathfinder Office. We will demonstrate how to download, install, and use the KYCORS extension for Terrasync and ArcPad collected data.

Registration for this workshop is FREE for KAMP members and students.  Non-KAMP members may register for $25.

***Note*** This workshop includes simultaneous programs in two separate rooms.  Please indicate which session you would like to attend by selecting "Lecture" room 200 or "Computer" room 206 during registration.

KAMP is aligning its training objectives with GIS standards established by the GIS Certification Institute (GISCI) for the GISP Exam and used by the National Geospatial Technology Center of Excellence (GeoTech Center) in their personal assessment instrument. The GeoTech Center is utilizing forty-four (44) content areas  which are associated with more than 200 competencies.  The GeoTech Center is researching the knowledge strengths and weaknesses in each of these content areas.  The GeoTech Center will reference these content areas for expansion of knowledge at three levels: introductory, intermediate and proficient. A series of code(s) corresponding to the content area(s) and knowledge level (http://www.geotechcenter.org) will be assigned to every educational and professional development opportunity sponsored, co-sponsored, or coordinated by KAMP. Those attending training will be awarded credit towards continuing education in those areas; those credits can then be used towards GISP certification and re-certification, as specified by the GISCI (http://gisci.org).
